EV charging in India: depot schedules, constrained power and SKD planning
For an Indian fleet depot, buying the highest charger rating does not by itself solve a morning departure deadline. Use a vehicle-by-vehicle schedule, a verified electrical headroom figure and a clear service boundary to prepare a supplier comparison.

A mixed operation may contain passenger cars, vans and other vehicle classes with different charging requirements. Record each exact model, inlet, maximum accepted charging power and energy needed before departure. This guide concerns compatible commercial AC/DC projects; it does not imply that every two-wheeler, three-wheeler or bus can use the same charger.
Test the overnight window, then the departure bottleneck
Illustration: 24 vehicles needing 18 kWh each require 432 kWh. Spread evenly across 9 hours, that is 48 kW average DC output, or about 52.2 kW AC input at an assumed 92% efficiency. If half the fleet arrives late, the average is no longer sufficient evidence. Evaluate arrival batches and the number of accessible bays separately.
Compare equipment plus installation, not equipment alone
Request a site drawing, verified supply data, cable routes, civil work and commissioning responsibilities. Consider the new slim dual-output DC range where space is constrained, but get actual dimensions and service clearances before allocating a bay. Include connector compatibility, power sharing and backend acceptance testing in the RFQ.
SKD needs an acceptance plan
For a local assembly discussion, agree a bill of materials, assembly instructions, tooling, training, end-of-line tests, traceability and warranty boundaries. Technical documentation does not itself establish local certification or local-content eligibility. Ask the importer and qualified project team which approvals apply to the exact configuration.

- Vehicle roster and departure schedule, not only a fleet total.
- Available AC headroom after existing facility loads.
- Power-sharing behaviour and backend test cases.
- Model-specific approvals and defined SKD quality responsibilities.
Questions to resolve
Will a larger charger remove the need for a supply upgrade?
No. Charger rating does not create extra site capacity. A schedule or verified load-control design may help, but requires project-specific engineering.
Does SKD automatically mean approval for use in India?
No. Assembly scope, testing, approval and installer obligations must be established separately.
Can I ask for a shorter cable?
Yes. The standard cable is generally 5 m; shorter or longer configurations need model-specific review.
